Employed as project director for 8-year-old firm, man pockets sponsorship of Rs 2 lakh meant for coastal belt project and vanishes; cops assure employer he will be apprehended soon

The accused in a Rs 2 lakh cheating case, Ramesh Satyanarayana, project director with Bangalore Media Center (BMC), which prepares press notes and media invites for MLAs and MLCs, is on the run after allegedly pocketing the amount meant for development of Karnataka's coastal belt.

Unknown to Harish, Satyanarayana diverted the amount to a benami account and absconded

The owner of BMC, D V Harish, who appointed Satyanarayana, sent him to Mangalore for development of the coastal belt project.

Harish approached Kudremukh Iron Ore Limited (KIOCL) and bagged sponsorship of Rs 2.1 lakh. Shortly after, he was informed that the deal was cancelled and Satyanarayana advised him to let the project go, as no sponsorship was forthcoming.

Meanwhile, unknown to his employer, Satyanarayana had diverted the amount to a benami account and dropped off the radar. On learning of this, Harish attempted to contact his employee, but was not successful. He then approached the Vidhana Soudha police station and filed a complaint.

"I trusted him and appointed him in my eight year old firm, but he has cheated me and transferred money through a benami account.

I have received calls from several persons demanding back various amounts of money, which Satyanarayana has taken. If they decide to file complaint, I will be held responsible since his dues are close to Rs 20 lakh.

Police Inspector D Ashok said that a case of criminal breach of trust and cheating has been registered and a search has been launched for the accused.

"Harish is depressed because of his ordeal and came to the station along with his wife, mother and son for enquiry. We assured him of prompt action," Ashok said.
