British citizen arrested for trying to get a US visa using an Indian passport
A British citizen of Indian origin was arrested by the police after he tried to get a visa from the US Embassy using an Indian passport, despite being a UK citizen. The accused's wife is a US citizen living in Hong Kong. His wife called him to US after which he applied for visa but embassy officials informed the cops after they came to know that he is a British citizen.
A senior police official said that Kripal Singh was arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
"Singh applied for the tourist visa in August 2010. He was called for the interview by the embassy official. The official found that he had been in US earlier but Singh denied.
The embassy officials got suspicious and checked his details again. They found that Kripal visited Hong Kong in 2002 as a British citizen. When he was probed about the matter, Singh confessed that he has a British passport through which he entered in the US and spent seven years," said a senior police official.
The embassy official asked him to bring his UK passport to deposit it with them. But after leaving the embassy he was avoiding their call. "Kripal committed fraud by possessing two passports of different countries," said the official. Kripal told the police that he did not have Indian citizenship but he got the Indian passport with the help of an agent.
