The Guide catches up with city-based classical rock trio, Strange Brew, who will soon be out with their hindi rock album
Music is a strange brew that requires a combination of influences to make something hummable. Ask city-based band, Strange Brew, who have reinvented themselves as a three-member band. The band members come from diverse musical backgrounds, ranging from Indian Classical to Pop, Rock, fusion and Jazz, creating a strange brew of sorts. Band members include Michael Pereira (keyboard, bass and vocals), Chris Fonseca (lead guitar and vocals) and Sanjeev Pantkar (drums).u00a0
The band was formed way back in 1999 by musicians who have over two decade of musical exposure. They released their album Just Brewed in 2003 and have played all over the country collaborating with bands like Ezee Meat, X-Ost, Fusion Ensemble, Mystic Frost, Karma and Jet Set.
They also have 1,200 shows and a repertoire of Indian Classic, Pop, Rock, Fusion and Jazz.
"We are coming up with a Hindi Rock music album, which is in the final stages. Since the last six years we have been focussing on making Hindi music. We also play other genres like Pop, Rock, Reggae, fusion and Jazz," says Sanjeev.
"We're trying to innovate all the time with our originals as well," he states, adding that there are more Indian originals nowadays.
Describing the Pune audience as a "great hard Rock audience," Sanjeev adds that the large student community often goes for live shows. He admits that the band is open to Bollywood offers as well. "That's why we are releasing a Hindi album. But if and when we do music for Bollywood, I'm quite clear that it will be on our own terms," he concludes.
