If you cringe at the sight of aunties swaggering around South Mumbai in polyester kurtis worn over capris that barely fit, Kurtiz could make the subtly-fashionable cut. The store stocks kurtis in sizes that match teenage girls, and go up to XL fits for large-sized shoppers. Apart from block printed and embroidered kurtis, they also stock ankle-length skirts, chappals in jute, mojris sourced from an artisan in Rajasthan, and handbags crafted from recycled material. Toned-down versions of these items are available at FabIndia.
Service: The service is friendly, and the sales manager who doubles up as shop assistant does a good job of helping you scout for pieces. It's a tiny store that could get crowded if more than five shoppers trooped in at once. The makeshift changing room, nothing but a draped corner of the shop, gets a tad uncomfortable, though.
We love: That they stock an extensive range in cotton, considering how hot it's been over the last few days. Light and airy, the kurtis start at an affordable Rs 150. Their most expensive item was a beautifully embroidered jacket that would look great over a tee and jeans, priced at Rs 3,500.
Price: Kurtas are priced at Rs 150 onwards and the footwear is available for Rs 850 onwards.
