On the night of November 2, during the month of Karthika, while a full moon will glisten in the sky, 330 million Hindu deities will descend on the Pushkar lake in Rajasthan. Thousands of devotees travel from all corners of the country to meet with the Gods and take a dip that promises to rid you off sins.
This year, an all-women gang is headed for the festival. Organised by Girls-On-The-Go, a travel company that plans only-ladies trips all over the country, it's your chance to witness the vibrancy of one of India's last remaining traditional fairs, one that attracts over 2 lakh visitors.u00a0
The fair starts off with cattle trading, following which a "camel beauty contest", camel races, dances, folk dances, turban-tying contests and puppet performances follow. It's the perfect place to shop till you drop since traders from the corners of Rajasthan gather to sell local handicrafts including beads, brass items, camel leather good and jewellery.
Once you are done shopping, head to one of Jaipur's tempting bazaars as you gaze at awe-inspiring palaces and forts that litter the city. Piya Bose of the Girls-on-the-Go says, "Women seek certain pleasures from a vacation, that are not the same as what a male traveller looks for. And this trip is tailor-made for them. Shopping excursions, spa activities and interaction with villagers is on the cards."u00a0
