After suffering cruelty at the hands of her husband for 19 years, ophthalmologist files domestic violence complaint against him

An ophthalmologist, who allegedly suffered torture from her husband for 19 years, finally broke her silence and filed a domestic violence complaint.

"For the past 19 years we have been dealing with domestic problems. He has always treated me very badly and harassed me mentally and physically," Sultana told MiD DAY. She added that Dev always doubted her behaviour and would scold her for no reason. "I am frustrated now. I am discussing this issue with my family and will take a firm decision to overcome this harassment. My lawyer has advised me not to disclose anything."

Sultana and Sharad had a love marriage 20 years ago, but things apparently turned sour from the beginning itself. She said that he would harass her for several reasons and would beat her up every night. However, Sultana believed things would get better, especially once she gave birth. But this allegedly did not happen.

Sharad Dev, a factory worker was unaware of her complaint. "There are no conflicts between us. We are living with each other with great respect," he told this reporter before abruptly disconnecting the call. R T Nagar police inspector B P Prasad refused to comment on the case.u00a0
