Imagine a concert where you can listen to high-profile performers such as Zakir Hussain (Tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (Vocals), U Shrinivas (Mandolin), Sivamani (Drums) and Selvaganesh (Percussion). Heartbeats brings these five talented musicians on one stage for a soiree of Carnatic, Hindustani and world music.
The competitive factor also comes into play. "On stage, we challenge each other and it brings out the best from us. It helps that we understand each other pretty well," admits U Shrinivas.
One thing that makes these musicians happy is the involvement of youngsters in classical concerts. "It feels good to see so many youngsters taking up music as a profession and actively participating in such concerts," adds Shrinivas.
Each of these musicians have a lot of affection for the city. But drummer Sivamani's connect with the city is thanks to his son studying at Bishop's School and his numerous friends residing in the area. "The audience welcomes all kinds of music, be it Rock, Classical or any other form, which motivates us all the more," he adds. Shrinivas' admiration of Punekaris is because of their musical knowledge and ability to appreciate good music.
But you don't need to be a connoisseur to enjoy the music. "Every human being has a musical rhythm in their body and hence, a concert like this is special," concludes Salvaganesh.u00a0u00a0
