Unwind over Nick of Thyme, a refreshing cocktail, as Jim Morrison watches over you at B Flat and trudge up to Highnote for a meal that is total value for money

The first thing that strikes you about B Flat is the sheer size of the bar and the plush interiors. The walls are covered with life-size posters of Jim Morrison and other singers, leaving you in no doubt about who B Flat's owners and jazz artiste Aarti and Sunil Shetty idolises.

The black leather couches invite you to relax and unwind. My drink for the evening was Nick of Thyme and combined dashes of vodka, triple sec, sprigs of thyme, pomegranate and lime juice. I orderedu00a0 the Amritsari Macchi, which was perfectly done, and Chilly Roast Lamb, which was a tad stringy but sapid.

After another round of drinks on the second floor, we headed to Highnote, the fine dining restaurant on the third floor and chose the open air area.

The owners, Sunil and Aarti Shetty, had always wanted to combine their passion for music, drink and food, and Highnote gave them the perfect opportunity to experiment.

The menu here is a mix of Continental, Oriental and Indian cuisine. There is a separate Starters menu with as many as 38 dishes in the Oriental section, thanks to the Chinese chef and co- owner Ho. Some of the favourites are the Kung Po Prawns, Prawn Snowballs, Crispy Chicken Wings, Teppanyaki Chicken and also tofu, pork and beef options. I gorged on the Chicken Momos, Kebabs and Tikkas.

Ho's Bengali delicaciesu00a0 like Shorshe Malai Maach, which is fish in mustard- yoghurt gravy, Paturi Maach (seabass marinated with Bengali masalas and steam cooked in a leaf) are unbeatable.

For the main course, try the Mutton Dum Biryani from the Awadhi section of the menu. It is priced at an unbeatable Rs 125. Total VFM!

The Continental section of menu has interesting salads like Mediterranean, Mozzarella, Pear and Walnut and more, perfect for the health freaks.

For dessert, I tried the chocolate mousse and Lemon Grass Ice-Cream, which was refreshing.

Where: B Flat (2nd floor), Highnote(3rd floor), 776, (Opp Little Italy, above Baby Shop), 100ft Road, HAL 2nd stage, Indiranagar.
Call: 4241 4000.
Wallet factor: Rs 500 for meal for two.
