Preliminary reports reveal cause of fire was a short circuit in basement of building; two injured

A major fire broke out at the office of Hewlett-Packard (HP Tower), Golf View Campus on Wind Tunnel Road in Murugeshpalya last night around 9 pm. According to preliminary reports, two security guards were injured, but no deaths were reported.

The fire brigade officials reached the spot and evacuated the whole building. Officials speculated that a short circuit in the basement of the building in the UPS room caused the fire.

"The person who informed us of the mishap was not sure and we did not know whether it was a residential or commercial building," said Chief Fire Officer K U Ramesh. "Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot and more than 35 men were put on job. By 11 pm, our men had doused the fire. Two security guards were injured and have been admitted to Manipal Hospital."

Evacuated employees stood outside the building in a state of panic and shock.u00a0 No one was allowed to enter the building or to take their vehicles parked in the basement.
