The last two shows of laugh riot Run For Your Wife will be staged on Sunday

What happens when a man leads a dual life, with two wives each oblivious about the existence of the other? And what happens when the two livesu00a0-- and wivesu00a0-- come perilously close and threaten to meet? That is what the laugh riot Run For Your Wife deals with.

Directed by Renu S. Chopra of Dramatech, the play is an adaptation of Ray Cooney's 1983 play Run For Your Wife and will be staging its last two shows on Sunday.

The play has already completed 10 successful shows in Sri Ram Centre and LTG Auditorium. Run For Your Wife is the story of a Delhi tourist car operator, who has a wife in Malviya Nagar, another in Kalkaji, and hence a hectic schedule. One fine day, after gallantly intervening in a mugging incident and getting a mild concussion in the process, he is taken to the hospital.

And that's when trouble starts brewing for him. With the help of an unwilling neighbour, he tries to deal with a string of well-meaning but prying policemen, the press, two increasingly irate wives and a gay neighbour. And though he finally confesses, the catch is that no one believes him.

One interesting anecdote about the play is that it is being performed by two different teams, with eight actors in each team. And though they enact the same script, both sets of actors have given it their own interpretations. "So one actually feels that he is watching two different plays," says Renu.u00a0 And what made her do it? "Dramatech has a huge pool of actors and so I thought it would be a good experiment. And it has turned out to be an interesting experience," she confesses.

Renu came across the play while searching for comedy scripts. "I changed the names of the characters and gave them an Indian context so that people could identify and figure out the distances in their mind," she says. The response, says Renu, has been overwhelming so far. "All the shows were houseful and we even had people sitting on the aisles," says the director, happily. The cast is rehearsing thrice a week now, and though curtains will soon be down on this one, Renu promises to get back with another such success.
