A group that welcomes youngsters who wish to innovate in the field of electronics

The Electronics Technology Club (ETC), founded by the Electronic Science Department of Fergusson College, aims to be a platform for students who thrive on electronics and want to share their passion. Formed on October 10, 2008, by five students and faculty members of the department, the ETC recently celebrated its first anniversary with more than 180 members.

According to Prof J V Khedkar, HOD, Electronic Science Department, Fergusson College, "ETC has given rise to a new charming, academic 'electronic' atmosphere in the department." Added Tejas Potphode, information secretary, ETC, "We also emphasise on the interpersonal and employable skills of members, including communication skills and professional conduct. This way we fully equip ETC members for the corporate electronics technology world."

Activities
So far, the club has organised various activities, including industrial visits, audio-visual presentations of new ideas, electronic circuits' projects, guest lectures from scientists, scientific seminars and conferences and screenings of scientific videos. The club has also held contests on scientific games and e-puzzles, problem solving, debates and competitions. "This year Fergusson College is celebrating its post-centenary Silver Jubilee and our department is celebrating its Silver Jubilee year. So we have planned many activities," said Khedkar.

Happy with the success they have achieved, the club members now dream of starting sub clubs in neighbouring science colleges. Lawrence Luyombya, founder chairman, ETC said, "The ETC is gaining popularity. We expect three more colleges to start branches of ETC. But Fergusson College will remain the head quarters for all the other ETCs set up in the city."
