Former corporator Kailash Gaikwad and four others have been booked for assaulting a senior lawyer on the court premises on Wednesday. Condemning the assault, the Pune Bar Association staged a protest this morning at the court.
The incident took place yesterday at Shivajinagar Sessions court. Rajendra Vitankar, 63, said, "During the hearing in a civil case, when Gaikwad was called for cross-examination, I threw some questions at him, to which he had no answers. He got angry and threatened me with dire consequences."
After the hearing, Gaikwad and four others allegedly dragged Vitankar near the parking area and assaulted him. "They took away Rs 15,000 in cash. When my colleagues gathered, they fled," he said.
Senior inspector Milind Gaikwad said, "We will arrest Gaikwad soon."
