Suspected Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent Vishambar Agarwal (24) yesterday got a lawyer to defend himself in court.

The development comes a fortnight after his arrest.

Advocate Abhay Sirsat submitted the vakalatnama in court for Agarwal yesterday.

Agarwal was remanded in judicial custody till February 28 when he was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class R L Wankhade.

"We want to verify the documents seized from Agarwal and scrutinise the details of calls allegedly made by him to Pakistan," the police stated in their remand application.

The police had arrested Agarwal under the Officials Secrets Act on February 1 near Alankar theatre.

Agarwal hails from Bidola village in Haryana and was working as a supervisor at a Nigdi-based transport company, Borukha Roadways. Agarwal worked here for the past five years.

His alleged accomplice, army jawan Brijeshkumar Singh (26), who was attached with the Signal Regiment here, was arrested on February 7 and will be in police custody till February 21.

The police said they had recovered a hand-drawn map of the Southern Command headquarters in the city and 20 photographs of the army premises besides CDs containing sensitive data on serving officers, Rs 1,500, a PAN card, watch and mobile phone from Agarwal's possession.

Agarwal was operating five e-mail addresses and had accounts on social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook.

Investigations revealed Singh also gave a 1 GB memory card containing Southern Command photos to Agarwal.
Singh joined the army in 2006 and had come under the police scanner because of his "lifestyle and suspicious behavior".
