Based on a tip-off, a team from K G Halli police station raided Bilal teashop and arrested Mohammed Mustafa (24), Amjad Khan (40), Akbar Ali Khan (28) and Ranjith Kumar Pandit (22).

During the raid, police recovered a betting amount of Rs 14,500, four mobile phones and a colour TV. According to the police, the accused were into small-time businesses and ganged up to make a quick buck by luring local people to bet on the match being played in Chennai.

Senior police officials averred that organised betting rackets in the city has dropped drastically due to the incessant raids being carried out.

Though small-scale betting rackets continue, a majority of the punters has shifted their bases to the outskirts of the city, but the police have been monitoring these hotspots and will continue to conduct raids.
