Two persons were crushed when a container from a speeding trailer fell on an auto at 11.30 am, near the Pune-Bangalore highway.
The deceased Dhanashri Pawar (24) was on her way from Chandni Chowk to Katraj in an auto to attend a birthday party, when she along with the auto driver, Deepak Vikram Jadhav (35), was crushed under the container, killing them on the spot.u00a0
The incident occurred at the Vadgaon Badrukh,Navale Lawns near the highway.u00a0
u00a0"The trailer was carrying big containers of fabrics to Mumbai from Satara. On the way, the driver saw a queue of autos and tried applying the brakes, but it did not work. This resulted in the accident," said Police Constable Balasaheb Gavhane.
The driver of the trailer Bhaosaheb Gaikwad (23) was arrested by the Abhiruchi police station. The driver was not injured.
The police are waiting for the medical report to confirm if the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Dhanashri is a resident of Bhugao and married to Dutteray Pawar for the last three years and has no children. "We do not want to register any case against the driver. We are just waiting for the cops to hand us the body after the post-mortem is over," said Mahesh Jadhav, a distressed relative of the deceased.
Apart from the auto driver's friends there were no family members present at the hospital. "With an experience of 18 years no auto driver can be unsafe especially him. We cannot believe that he met with a road accident," said Mallinath Dogani (39), an autorickshaw driver and Deepak's friend.
