Anantara Resorts that has kicked up a controversy with its proposed commercial resort in the rocky terrains of Ramanagar has allegedly faked its very name.

The company has purportedly copied the name of an internationally recognised firm named Anantara Hospitality.
The fact came to light when the original company, Maritius-based Anantara Hospitality, issued a clarification alleging that the city-based firm had copied its name.

An official from Anantara Hospitality said that the city-based company was trying to take advantage of their name.

"They want to mislead people by making them believe that it's a big company and quite famous in its domain," he said.
He added that Anantara Resorts was merely six-year-old company.
"When we approached them with our contention, they demanded Rs 40 lakh from us to change the name. That's when we decided to file a civil suit against them," he said.
Anantara Hospitality had even filed a case in 2008 against Anantara Resorts for copying its name.
Besides, Justice C Chandramalle Gowda had issued an injunction restricting the city-based company from using 'Anantara' in its name citing an alleged violation of intellectual property norms.
G Ravishankar, MD of Anantara Resorts, said, "It's just a co-incidence that we have the same name. But now that they (Anantara Hospitality) have moved the court, we'll fight a legal battle to save our brand name."

For the moment, Anantara Resorts has changed its name tou00a0 Amritara. "We did so, as the matter is pending in the court of law," explained Ravishankar.
