To avoid the hassle of being stopped by cops for drink driving, he planned to spend the night in his auto.
At 2.15 am, seated on the footpath with his auto parked close by, two other autos approached him and asked for his keys.
Vinod obliged, frightened by the gang of four. The group drove his auto a few metres away from its owner before abandoning it and making away with Rs 150 and a cell phone worth Rs 2,100.
"The four thugs spoke to me in perfect Hindi," explained an emotional Vinod. He also added, "My parents live in Hubli and I have to support them."
While the Ashok Nagar Police station has been unable to find the group, a complaint has been lodged against them.
