Govindaraju, who was in their business network had recently refused to pay up, which enraged Venugopal and the others," Tejaswi informed.
"Govindaraju had not only refused to pay their share, but also started operating on his own, which the gang saw as a challenge," he added.
Crime scene
Venugopal along with M Mukesh Yadav, M Mahadeva, H G Ramesh Gowda, M Balaji, K Saravana and Francis Xavier, abducted Govindaraju on the pretext of inviting him for a chat.
They later took him to the outskirts of the city and clubbed him to death. The group then fled the scene after dumping his body in a lake.
During investigations, the police discovered that Venugopal and the victim had recently had a tiff regarding a financial matter and based on this information, they picked him up for questioning.
During questioning, Venugopal confessed to the crime, which subsequently led to the arrest of the others involved.
