Gangster Vijay Palande, who has been rounded up for the murder of Delhi-based businessman Arun Kumar Tikku, was today arrested in connection with the killing of aspiring producer Karan Kakkad.
Palande, who wanted to usurp Tikku's property in Mumbai, was arrested on April 10 for the murder of the 67-year-old businessman on April 7. But the same day he escaped from police custody but was captured again hours later.u00a0

According to the police, Palande, during interrogation in the Tikku murder case, confessed that he killed Kakkad last month and dumped his body in Mumbai's outskirts. Police later recovered decomposed body parts of Kakkad from forests at Kumbharli Ghat in Chiplun near Mumbai. Money and some personal reasons led Palande to kill Kakkad, they said.
A local court today sent Palande and his two accomplices - Dhananjay Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh - to one-day judicial custody in the Tikku murder case. They will be produced tomorrow before the court for remand.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch sources said they are in the process of studying the mobile phone records of Palande after he gave a slip to the police. The mobile tower records will reveal where all did Palande stop when he was on the run, they said.
Sources said Assistant Commissioner of Police Arvind Mahabdi, who was tasked with conducting an inquiry against the policemen who allegedly helped Palande escape from custody, today submitted his report.
