PMC finally issues order suspending rape accused garden official Ghorpade, blames delay by police

THE PMC Garden Department has issued an order suspending Garden Superintendent (Trees) Ashok Ghorpade. The order will officially be issued today.
MiD DAY had first published the report about Ghorpade's arrest on November 8 for allegedly molesting and raping a 30-year-old woman living inu00a0 Bibwewadi.
The Sahakarnagar police, who are investigating the case, reportedly delayed informing the PMC about the arrest, which is required for the civic body to issue suspension orders.
Bhanudas Mane, deputy commissioner (Garden), said that he signed the order of suspension and gave it to Kundalik Karkar, Establishment, PMC for final signature.
"The delay was due to lack of communication from the police who did not give us the information in writing," he said. "I am sure that the formal order with the signature of establishment department will get issued on Monday."
Earlier, environmentalists and tree lovers had demanded the suspension of Ghorpade. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has threatened an agitation if the order was not issued soon.u00a0 The tree lover and RTI activist Sushil Shevale had also demanded the suspension of Ghorpade followed by his arrest.
