Replace gold, which is getting more expensive by the day
With the prices of gold continuing to hit new highs, diamonds, which are now cheaper, are fast emerging as the new choice. But gold is not totally out of reach.

A new range of jewellery is making its presence felt.
"Old jewellery made of all-yellow gold is passe now. Brides are definitely looking for more smart, suave and practical gold jewellery rather than buying heavy sets, which were once the taste of the older generation," said Sangeeta Lalwani, director of Goldmart Jewellers.
Stones in demand
"Practicality of jewellery is the most considered factor. Jewellery that gets entangled in clothing is generally avoided these days.
Antique sets, jewellery in combination with real stones, minakari and jali work are in great demand today," Sangeeta added.
As compared to gold prices, prices of real stone are stable. This fact has definitely given a boost to the demand, where people are preferring to buy jewellery that is a combination of gold and stones," said Sangeeta.
And diamonds are also in demand. "When compared to gold, diamond prices have reduced drastically, so 20 per cent of our costumers who were previously interested only in gold are now considering diamond jewellery," said Ashwin Lalwani of Rajmal Lakhichand.

Modern look
Madhavi Joshi, a Puneite, who recently got married, said, "I tried to combine modern and the traditional look while choosing my jewellery.
And latest designs were my choice. Personally, I am not fascinated by rhodium-polished jewellery or minakari so I preferred something that was not delicate and yet not too heavy."
