It also gave go-ahead for Rapid Bus Transport system for three fast-growing cities in the state, as well as Rs 9 crore tax concession to Toyota Kirloskar. These projects were approved at the cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. On the the 700 mw dedicated power plant for Bangalore, Minister for Higher Education V S Acharya said at the media briefing that the government wants to leverage the advantage thrown up by the Dabhol-Bangalore gas pipeline, which is expected to be completed by 2014.

He said, utilising the gas availability, the government wants to set up the power plant, the work for which was expected to be entrusted to the state-owned Karnataka Power Corporationu00a0-- the nodal agency for power generation. The government had earlier charted plans to set up a combined cycle thermal power plant to produce 1,400 mw of energy to meet the requirement of this IT capital, which currently consume 53 per cent of total power generated in the state, he said. Besides, Acharya said that as part of a solution to ease traffic congestion, the cabinet approved implementation of Rapid Bus Transport System for Bangalore, Mysore and twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.
