Grace under pressure

>> We admit to discreetly looking the other way when her FB posts lean too much towards the tired and emotional. After all, which of us has not had our ‘saying too much too soon’ on social network days? But recently when the ailing Manisha Koirala posted a picture of herself post her cancer surgery with a couple of truly heroic comments, we couldn’t help but applaud. Amid an avalanche of sympathy from her friends and fans, her stoic words came as a perfect example of grace under pressure. ‘Dear friends thank you for all your wishes. I’m in good place and in good hands,” she wrote. “With all your love and prayers I’m sure I’ll recover. I have had a beautiful life so far and know, whatever will happen will all be good. Thank you from bottom of my heart for your prayers.”

And if that was not enough to get us doffing our hat this Tagore verse she posted certainly did: ‘Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, But to be fearless in facing them. Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.’ Get well soon Manisha! Salut!

Everybody breathe out
>> The redoubtable Peter Nagy also known as ‘the poster boy of Indian contemporary art’ writes in to shed light on the changes at Nature Morte, his gallery in Delhi that represents some of India’s finest contemporary artists and photographers. “Aparajita Jain of New Delhi has become my new partner in Nature Morte, replacing Dr Arani Bose of Bose Pacia, New York.

The artists that we work with have been informed of this development and there should be no confusion on their part. My involvement with the United Art Fair, as artistic director, is in no way in competition with Neha Kirpal and the India Art Fair, which I will continue to support as an exhibitor. The parameters of the United Art Fair are completely different than the India Art Fair and I believe that the Indian art scene is rich and diversified enough so as to support two completely different art fairs. I wish nothing but the best for the continued growth and success of the India Art Fair.”

JJ Valaya

And finally: “My choice to exhibit the photographs of JJ Valaya was in no way a compromise to our programming. Valaya’s work is of the highest caliber and we will continue to represent his works.” So there!

Corner office on the beach
>> Long have we been admirers of SoBo’s cool dude Sula’s inimitable Rajiv Samant, who has not only put his wine on some of the best tables around the world but also shown us how to do it with style! As we sit in Mumbai pursuing our dreary lives our FB timeline is livened no end by his posts from the world’s hottest spots where he eats, drinks and parties with passion.

Rajiv Samant

Take for instance, this wonderful post from Goa where the Ivy-league educated Samant appears to park himself during the winter months: “Working lunch at Villa Blanche in Assagao.. guy next to me says ‘Excuse me, I heard what you said about Sula Vineyards. I am a big wine importer in Moscow and St Petersburg. Let’s chat!’ Organised a tasting for him at Ku tomorrow — fingers crossed. Just another day at the office in Goa.” We like!

Eat healthy, look pretty
>> The lovely Lisa Sadanah invited us yesterday to her penthouse apartment in tender loving Khar to try out an absolutely scrumptious and very healthy lunch catered by Vijaya and Anju Venkat’s ‘the health awareness center’. We have been admirers of the formidable mother-daughter duo ever since we learnt that they were responsible for not only Anil Ambani’s spectacular weight loss but also for turning him in to a lean mean running machine! As for the lunch it was absolutely awesome: dairy free, free of preservatives and additives and delicious to boot.

What’s more I met some of Mumbai’s prettiest young ladies there — a lot of them former models like Nina Manuel, Aditi Govitrikar, Namrata Shroff, Suzanne Sablok, Sherri Meher-Homji and Mithali Kakkar (even the women who weren’t former models were pretty. Is that what eating Venkat’s meals do to you?) “The lunch is a Christmas gift to my girlfriends: an introduction to a healthy option!” said Lisa.

Hot off the grapevine
>> Ok. So, here’s the latest about Mumbai’s most celebrated diva and our favourite party girl. At her recent birthday party apparently, the vibes between the glam hostess and a dashing young businessman from London were as hot as the guest list. Before we had even opened our eyes the morning after the party, our SMS box was full of news the latest coupling. That the besotted young man happens to be the handsome scion of a vast empire only adds to the excitement. After all, the lady who’s been through a lot lately deserves nothing less!

Promising new eatery
îSo, one more restaurant will enter Mumbai’s vibrant F&B space. And this time it’s helmed by a veteran of the industry: Sudhir Bahl whose family owned Khyber, a Mumbai institution.

A friend who dined at the new eatery (to be named Cheval) recently says that it’s located in the Khyber building where Yashab once was and that the international European menu was promising. “The chef is from London and they will be opening their bar over this weekend,” she informed. “And the prices will be around the same as Café Zoe’s”.u00a0
