THE 61st Republic Day left three officials from the districts of Mysore, Hubli and Koppal red faced after improper hoisting of the National Flag.

Vidya Kumari, the assistant commissioner of police of Hunsur district hoisted the flag at the town hall around 8.30 am. The knot was tied on the wrong side and the flag unfurled upside down. In Kustagi taluk of Koppal district, Sajjan, an official of the Sericulture Department, was hoisting the flag, but again, the green strip instead of the saffron one was on top.

In both cases, the mistake was rectified soon after it had occurred. In Durgadbail of Hubli district, Altaf Kittur,
a corporator of the

Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, got the colours right. But soon it was discovered that the flag was torn as the thread from certain portions had unravelled.
"Before asking to hoist the flag, its condition should be checked. It was shameful, but it was a mistake," said Altaf Kittur. "Moreover, they should not hoist the same flag for five consecutive years."

A police complaint was lodged in Mysore district. The police said they would soon investigate the various flag mishaps. "We have received a complaint regarding the wrong hoisting of the flag. It is a cognisable offence so we shall look into it and take necessary steps," said A R Infant, assistant director general of police (law and order), Mysore district.

"The only way to avoid such troubles is to make people aware of the Indian Flag Code." In the other two districts no complaints were lodged.
