First trial run on Sultanpur-Gurgaon line conducted

Thousands of young working professionals, having their offices in Gurgaon can heave a sigh of relief. The Metro

has arrived in the satellite town to rescue them from erratic traffic and dangerous and adventurous office cab drivers.

Metro will start full operations between Sultanpur-Gurgaon after the successful trial run and clearance from the Commissoner of Railway Safety. The train operations are expected to be started by March, Delhi Metro sources said.

They said Metro trains will start running on the entire Central Secretariat-Gurgaon section by July, as work on some portion between Qutub Minar and Sultanpur is still on.

Within Gurgaon, the Delhi Metro will have five Metro stations -- HUDA City Centre, IFFCO Chowk, M G Road, Sikanderpur and Guru Dronacharya Metro Station. The trial run covered only three metro stations -- Arjangarh, Ghitorni and Sultanpur. The entire stretch for today's trial run was 11 km. The length of Gurgaon portion is 7 km.

All metro stations in Gurgaon will have parking. The HUDA City Centre Metro station will have a parking space of 6,500 sq meters, which will be the second largest on the Metro network after the existing parking lot at Kanhaiya Nagar which is 7,042 sq meters.

The under-construction 27-km-long Central Secretariat-Gurgaon corridor will be an extension of the Jahangirpuri-Central Secretariat line. Once the CTST-Gurgaon corridor is opened for the public, it will form an approximately 45-km-long Metro line connecting North Delhi, South Delhi and Gurgaon in one stretch.

Ridership
The expected daily ridership on the CTST-Qutub Minar section is 1.6 lakh people by 2011 while the expected daily ridership on the Qutub Minar-Gurgaon section is 1.8 lakh people by 2011.

Will Hooda ride Metro?

Apparently for the first time a public dignitary would ride a train on trial run. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda may ride the Metro train upto Delhi-Gurgaon border, sources said.
However, Delhi Metro and Haryana government officials kept mum over the issue.
Generally, except Delhi Metro operations department officials nobody is allowed to board the trains on trial run. However, a spokesperson for Delhi Metro said with the consent of Delhi Metro officials, any dignitary could board the train but has to fill an indemnity form.u00a0
