The Bombay High Court today sought to know from the Maharashtra government what steps it has taken pursuant to the Integrated Child Protection Scheme aimed at building a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances.

In 2010, the state government had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Government for implementation of the Centre-sponsored scheme.
Under the scheme, the State Government was to set up within three months a state child protection society, state adoption resource agency, juvenile justice boards and child welfare committees in each district and special juvenile police units with a child welfare officer in each police station.
A Public Interest Litigation was filed by one Jaya Gulani seeking implementation of the scheme in the state. A division bench headed by Justice V M Kanade on Monday directed the government to file an affidavit within two weeks stating what steps it has taken towards implementation of the scheme.
