The traffic police have also decided to recruit and deploy more women constables and officers on the road. The senior officers believe that women are stricter about discipline and respected by motorists.
Improvising skills
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil said: "We were receiving many complaints about the traffic staff deployed on roads and how they behaved arrogantly with the people. It was necessary to change this attitude. For many months I have been personally interacting with subordinate officers and the constabulary about this, after which we decided to conduct a training session for our entire staff."
Currently, more than 500 police personnel are undergoing training session at the Central Institute of Road and Transport in Bhosari. "They are being trained to develop their communication skills and manage stress levels," Patil said.
Boosting strength
"In the next few months, the total staff available with the traffic branch will increase from present 700 to 1,700 including 150 officers. More women constables and officers will be inducted this time, as interestingly, we have seen that citizens respect women more and the lady officers are also found to be strict about traffic discipline," Patil said.
