His plot was quite filmy, a la Saif Ali Khan in Race. Karma Aggrawal (32) planned to fake his own death and he was prepared to kill for it. But while Saif had a happy ending to his reel life story, Karma and his associate Satnam (20) were nabbed by northwest Delhi police on Tuesday and have been charged with murder.

"The Bhalswa Dairy police station received a PCR call about a charred corpse that had been recovered that morning. The police team arrived on the spot and found the half- burnt body of a man. They discovered some ID-cards and documents belonging to Karma near the corpse. The police then called his family members from Punjab who identified the body as Karma," said N S Bundela, DCP(North-West Delhi).

The family members received the body. But after some time the cops smelt foul play in the case.
"Our team received information that the corpse was not Karma and that he is still alive. The cops started searching for Karma and on Tuesday they found him near a Gurdwara in Bhalswa Dairy area. The police team arrested him immediately and on his tip off Satnam Singh was also nabbed," Bundela added.

According to the police, during interrogation Karma revealed that he was wanted in several cases in Delhi including some under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and also in various cases in Punjab. There are many litigations pending in court against him.

"He was then residing in Punjab and was trying to come up with a plan to avoid going to jail. Then he decided to kill someone with similar physical attributes as him to fake his own death. For this he came to Delhi and met his friend Satnam. On June 22, the duo found a person lying in a drunken stupor near the Gandhi Vihar area. They took him to an isolated spot in Bhalswa Dairy and strangled him to death," Bundela added.

"Then they sprinkled petrol onto the body and set it on fire. Karma planted his identification documents near the body and then both of them fled the scene. Before burning the corpse Agrawal exchanged clothes with the victim," the DCP said.

The deceased is yet to be identified and the police are investigating the case for further leads.
