DMRC to install token vending machines at stations
Forget long waits in serpentine queues for tokens at Metro stations.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will erect token vending machines for those who don't have smart cards.
With daily ridership crossing nine lakh, commuters have to stand in queue for several minutes. During the peak hours, getting Metro tokens become more painful as load factor increases manifold.
A Delhi Metro spokesperson said, "The Delhi Metro would soon set up touch screen token vending machines at five stations. Rigorous testing of the machines is underway."
Five touch screen token vending machines have been installed at Rajiv Chowk, Vishwavidyalaya, Barakhamba Road and Central Secretariat Metro stations.
"One more machine would be installed on a yet to be opened section of Metro network at Akshardham Metro station of Noida Line," said the Metro spokesperson.
Two years ago a token vending machine was installed at Rajiv Chowk Metro station on a pilot project basis.
"The new machines have been designed keeping in view response got from commuters and our own observations," said an Operations department official.
Commuters will also be able to recharge their smart cards through the vending machines. Each machine costs Rs 20 lakh.
