A multilingual Braille Library Project that has been launched in the city that will provide user-friendly features for blind
There's good new for visually impaired in the city as country's first multilingual Braille Library Project has been launched in the city.
Funded by the Rotary Club of Pune Westend, the Braille libraries would be set up at two places in the city and would be managed by the Niwant Andh Mukta Vikasalya (NAMV).
Developed by Modular Infotech Pvt Ltd and Automatic Control Equipments, the city- based companies have developed this technology for incorporating user-friendly features for the visually impaired.
Describing the technology, Shashank Tilak, the project co-coordinator, said, "The libraries will use the technology of Microcomputer based Electronic Braille Readers with software for reading Indian Languages and English Braille."
Tilak added that technology would help visually challenged individuals to read books from over 11 Indian languages along with English.
"Besides, using this technology, the readers can also converting soft copies of these books in Braille books," he said.
Also, the libraries will house five readers called Braille Mitra, along with a computer, pen drives and Braille embossers and Electronic Refreshable Reader will eliminate the difficulty that visually impaired face while reading.
Meera Badwe, founder of NAMV, said, "Now, our organisation can provide a lot of reading material to the visually impaired.
