Gang impersonated cops and taxmen, arrested by south Delhi police

The city's highways are a lot safer now. On May 30, Delhi police nabbed seven people for allegedly committing robberies by impersonating policemen and sales tax officers in and around the Capital.u00a0u00a0

The accused have been identified as Rajesh (48), who is supposedly the gang leader, and his accomplices Jagbir (42), Rajender alias Pappe (35), Rafigue alias Babbu (30), Md. Khalid alias Shanu (22) and Rajji Ahmed alias Rajji (19). Another person, Bajrangi Yadav, has been held for cooperating with the robbers by taking care of the loot.

On May 22, Krishna Kumar Gupta, a resident of Saini Pura, Rohtak, reported: "I loaded my truck from Rohtak and came to Delhi for delivery at about 12:10 am.u00a0 When we were near the Nangloi metro station, a Maruti van veered in front of us and we were signalled to stop by a person in police uniform.

We stopped the truck and two persons in police dress entered our truck from both sides and asked us for documents. We were forced to sit on the back seat and were brutally beaten up. They threatened us with a pistol and a knife.u00a0 Later, they took the truck and abandoned us in the Bahadurgarh forest area."

u00a0This was not an isolated incident. A spate of robberies with the same modus operandi, have taken place in NCR in the past few months. Rajkumar from UP was robbed of 120 bags of plastic granules; Ram Shankar lost 295 bags of nuts and bolts. In another such incident Sheikh Mustkim, on his way to Saharanpur, was looted of bags of shoes and 216 packets of chemicals.

Finally after receiving a tip-off, the south district police laid down a trap under the supervision of Vasant Kunj ACP Mohd Ali. The robbers were nabbed by Inspector Jai Prakash and his team, while they were on their way to Masoodpur village, with goods stolen from Krishna Kumar Gupta.

These robbers were not novices; Rafique has cases of robbery and dacoity pending against him in Samaipur, Rajender has been in the business for 20 years, he's been booked for murder, robbery and also under the arms act.

u00a0According to HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south), "These robbers were not doing anything part-time. They were earning their livelihood by committing these crimes."
