A pregnant woman had a miscarriage after she was hit by a speeding Hyundai Santa Fe car in Lajpat Nagar area of south Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

A pregnant woman had a miscarriage after she was hit by a speeding Hyundai Santa Fe car in Lajpat Nagar area of south Delhi on Thursday afternoon. A senior police official said that the woman was crossing the road near Moolchand flyover when she was knocked down by the speeding vehicle.

She fell on the road and suffered severe injuries. She was immediately rushed to Moolchand hospital by her husband Jai Kishan but the damage was done. The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm. Police said that they have arrested the accused driver Sonu and have impounded the car (number plate DL3C BP4579).


Sonu lives in East of Kailash and works at the house of a south Delhi-based businessman. The official said that the victim, Poonam lives in Kalkaji area along with her and six-year-old daughter Khushi. She was on her way to fetch some medicine when she met with the accident.


"After hitting the victim Sonu tried to run away but was caught by the mob that has gathered after the incident. They beat him upu00a0and handed him over to the police," said the official. The victim is undergoing treatment at Moolchand hospital and her condition was stated to be stable.
