Holidaying Mumbai girl falls to death from Jejuri fort

A pall of gloom descended on a group of 50 holidaying Mumbaikars as a 21-year-old girl lost her balance while capturing scenic beauty in and around Jejuri Fort and fell to her death.u00a0

The tragic incident took place around 8 am yesterday, when the Vile Parle group on a statewide pilgrimage trip, reached the fort, around 40 km from the city, after paying visit to the famous Khandovau00a0temple.u00a0

According to the deceased's brother Mahendra, Suparna Suvar and her friends were posing against scenic beauty as she clicked pictures of them. She suddenly lost control and fell into the 150-ft gorge.u00a0According to the Jejuri Police, the girl, who sustained serious head injuries, was immediately rushed to Jejuri Rural hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.u00a0

Mahendra said, "The incident took place after we came out from the temple and my younger sister was clicking pictures of scenic beauty around. She lost balance and fell into the gorge sustained serious head injuries."u00a0

The Jejuri Police have registered an accidental death case. Investigating officer B Mu00a0Raut said, "Many tourists cannot control the temptation ofu00a0clicking their photograph from balcony-like area of the fort."u00a0Raut added, "A similar incident had taken place six months ago when a man fell down from the same spot."

A 67-year-old man, who had come to the fort along with his family members, died of cardiac arrest yesterday. He has been identified as Jaiprakash Shankarrao Dhere, a resident of Adarsha Nagar in the city.u00a0
