A married couple on their way to a religious shrine were killed after a tractor knocked them off their two-wheeler and ran over them yesterday. The incident took place near Katraj on the Pune-Satara highway at 7 am
The deceased, identified as Jagdish Satyanarayan Jaju (43), and his wife Mumtaz (36), were residents of Ambedkar Nagar in Kondhwa, and were headed to Khed-Shivapur on their bike.

The tractor driver identified as Wajir Mohammad Shaikh (54), of Bibwewadi, has been booked for rash and negligent driving. Mumtaz’s brother Aslam Mohammad Shakur lodged the compliant against the driver.
Anil Koli, assistant police inspector, said, “Jagdish was working in a private company and Mumtaz was a housewife. They were on their way to a dargah in Khed-Shivapur and after crossing the Katraj junction at about 7 am, the tractor banged their two-wheeler from behind near the Katraj ghat section. Both landed on the road and came under the wheels of the tractor. They were rushed to Sassoon hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors.
