Central Crime Branch sleuths held him for duping a businessman of R11.6 lakh by promising to get him a site under G category ufffd the Chief Minister's discretionary quota

The trio then made-up a letter with a fake signature and seal of the CM. Krishnappa introduced himself as the PA to the Chief Minister and recommended allotment of a site to Shailendra Murthy under the G category.

The scam came to light when Murthy went to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) with the letter of recommendation, but was informed by officials there that it was forged.
Murthy immediately approached the Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidari who directed the Joint commissioner of Police Alok Kumar to look into the matter. The case was then handed over to the Fraud and Misappropriation Squad of crime branch.
The cops swung into action and nabbed the trio within four days. Though the accused had already splurged money on alcohol, gambling and other vices, the sleuths recovered Rs 1.5 lakh from them.
How they did it
S H Duggappa, ACP, said, "The accused used to dress up decently and move in the corridors of Vidhana Soudha looking for gullible people. After identifying a possible target, Krishnappa would approach the person offering help to get their work done by claiming to be the PA to Yeddyurappa."
He added, "Once the victims were convinced, he would clinch a deal with them worth lakhs by offering them various favors, ranging from government jobs to sites under the CM's quota."
Duggappa said that they are grilling the trio to ascertain whether they have cheated others in similar ways. "We are also investigating whether the accused have any property, which would be attached as further procedure of the case," he added.
