Speaking at a conference in the university, Dr Gade, who has also been the director of Board of College and University Development (BCUD), said that the university at the moment would focus on implementing strong security measures by deploying a security advisor and an expert, Prabhu Desai, and seek his advice. “Security is the need of the hour and with experts we’ll also work with other security agencies,” he said.
He said that while the UoP would also increase security guards and staff, the decision regarding installation of the much-needed CCTV cameras on the campus would be taken in 15-20 days.
He said he would like to increase the employment rate of engineering students through the university itself since only 25 per cent of engineering students were employed because of fewer placement opportunities.
Gade, who started as a scientist at the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) in New Delhi, stated he also wanted to concentrate on upgrading the curriculum and strengthening the faculty and for that the university will start a skill development programme for all students so that they get better opportunities after they graduate and enhance their chances of getting better jobs.
The university from the upcoming academic year will also focus on recruiting the best teachers. “We want to create an atmosphere and a platform for teachers so that they enjoy working here. We’ll retain the best brains in the university. Our students should be the best. There is also a need to improve quality of research at the varsity and giving research a boost will be a priority for me. A university is recognised by its research work,” Gade said.u00a0
