The Happy Planet Index (HPI) places India at the 35th position among happy countries, while the US comes 114.

Wikipedia says that HPI is supposed to challenge well-established indices of development like GDP and the HDI.

While understanding it, it is good to know what happiness means.

But happiness comes at a price and this article says that fast-growing economies such as the US, China and India were all greener and happier 20 years ago than they are today.
