November 20, 2016: The death toll in one of the worst rail accidents in the country that took place on Sunday, November 20 when the Indore-Patna Express rolled off the tracks near Kanpur, rose to over 140. Over 150 people were injured in the tragedy when 14 coaches of the train ran off the rails near Pukhrayan station, about 60 km from Kanpur city. The worst hit were the sleeper coaches S1, S2, S3 and S4.
August 4, 2015: As many as 25 killed and 25 others injured as bogies of Kamayani Express running between Mumbai and Varanasi derail and fall into Machak river between Khirkiya and Bhirangi stations in Harda district of Madhya Pradesh. The Janata Express, coming from the opposite direction, too derails at the same spot minutes later.
March 20, 2015: 39 dead and 150 injured as Dehradun-Varanasi Janata Express derails in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli.
May 4, 2014: 20 dead and 100 others injured as Diva Junction-Sawantvadi passenger train derails between Nagothane and Roha stations in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
May 26, 2014: At least 25 killed and over 50 others injured as Gorakhpur-bound Gorakhdham Express rams into a stationary goods train near Khalilabad station in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
July 30, 2012: At least 35 passengers were killed and 25 injured when a coach of the Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express caught fire near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.
July 19, 2012: Head-on collision between Vidarbha Express and CST-bound Kasara local train left three people dead and over 70 injured on the outskirts of Mumbai.
May 31, 2012: Four people were killed when 11 coaches of the Dehradun-bound Doon Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district.
