Hansraj College is roping in superstar alumnus for its 60th year celebrations
Every time Delhi University's Hansraj College has to look back at its past, it doesn't forget to mention its most famous former student, superstar Shah Rukh Khan. And the actor doesn't deny his Alma Mater its due credit in shaping his life.
When the college celebrated its golden jubilee it gave away 17 commemorative shields to the alumni who had excelled in their lives and professions and Shah Rukh Khan was one of them. Even on its 60th birthday, being celebrated this year, the college hasn't forgotten its superhero who graduated in Economics in 1988. On the occasion, the college wants to feature him in a documentary film narrating his Hansraj experiences along with other dignitaries. A team of teachers and students has already approached the star.
Speaking on the phone from Mumbai, professor of English Sanjay Kumar, who went to interview the actor said that Shah Rukh Khan has agreed to give his inputs after February 16, as he has to undergo a shoulder surgery. The documentary will feature many other ex-students from Bollywood like director Anurag Kashyap, actor Shiney Ahuja and Praveen Dabas. And these actors have readily shared the fond experiences about their college days.
"Their response was very positive. They praised the teaching, non-teaching and all other staffers of the college. All the actors we interviewed were of the same opinion. They believe that unlike other colleges of the Delhi University, students of Hansraj have lesser academic pressure and thus are able to excel in other fields," said Kumar.
Apart from Bollywood personalities, politicians like Naveen Jindal, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Ajay Maken and journalist Vinod Dua will also be a part of this documentary.
The documentary will be screened on March 7 and will record the journey of the college from 1948 to 2009. Profiles along with personal experiences of former principals of the college, chairman of the governing body and star alumni will be mentioned in it. On the occasion, the college also plans to launch a bilingual magazine Samarika.
Dr SR Arora, principal of Hansraj, said, "We have been working really hard to make this event a success. Various teams of teachers and students are working to collect experiences of famous personalities who have studied here."
For the golden jubilee celebrations, the college building too is being renovated. Under this renovation plan, the 575-seat college auditorium will be transformed into a fully air-conditioned arena with latest light and sound systems. The capacity of its parking lot will also be doubled to fit in 100 cars. For the renovation Rs 1 crore has been provided to the college, out of which the management has given Rs 50 lakh and the rest will be collected from donations.
