Witnessing a 10-fold growth in the last decade, the country emerged as the ninth biggest market for the aviation sector.
But since the past few years, the aviation industry is going through a turbulent phase. Hence, the government has taken the issue quite seriously, and for the first time inducted another minister (deputy) for aviation sector.

Speaking to MiD DAY, KC Venugopal, who was made minister of state for civil aviation yesterday, said, “Although I have not taken charge yet, addressing passengers’ grievances is on top of my priority list. I will ensure that passengers are not inconvenienced. If the airlines fail to shape up, necessary action will be taken against them.”
He added that the long-pending induction of Ombudsman for the aviation industry would be made fast track. “Nonetheless it will be a challenging task, but I’ll give my best,” Venugopal assured, adding that he’ll discuss the issue with Ajit Singh as soon as he returns back to the country.
A sports enthusiast, Venugopal has earned an M.Sc in Mathematics. He was elected for 15th Lok Sabha from Alappuzha in Kerala. Before being shifted to the aviation ministry, he was minister of state for power.
