Scam-tainted former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa seems to be counting his chickens before they hatch, literally. At least his desperation to make a comeback in the state politics suggests so.
Will luck oblige? While Yeddy is asking for the state president's post to
replace his detractor K S Eswarappa, party leaders have apparently
given him the cold shoulder. File pic
Instead of waiting till October 15 when the Lokayukta special court is supposed to give verdict on his bail plea which will decide whether he goes to jail or continues to enjoy freedom, the BJP leader made it amply clear to his party colleagues that he wants to lead the party in the upcoming assembly polls.
Yeddyurappa informed this to his partymen at a meeting held at the Chief Minister's residence on Sunday.
Contrary to the general perception that his bail plea would be rejected and he would be sent to jail, an optimistic Yeddyurappa is hoping to get a reprieve and has already started to chalk out plans to regain his position in state politics. "We hope Yeddyurappa will definitely get justice on 15 October. And you will see a paradigm shift in the state politics after that," said a leader from the Yeddyurappa faction. While he is asking for the post of the state president by replacing his detractor K S Eswarappa, the party leaders have apparently given the cold shoulder to his demand.
"We know the BJP will be stronger under Yeddyurappa's leadership and the party has decided to throw weight behind him. But, he can't be given the president's post till he gets a clean chit in the cases pending against him. We explained our concern to him, and hope he is convinced," said a leader who attended the meeting.
According to the sources, it wasu00a0 decided in the meeting to go for a pre-electoral campaign under the joint-leadership of Yeddyurappa, Eswarappa and Chief minister D V Sadanada Gowda.
The Sunday meeting was actually scheduled for October 8, but it was cancelled as an adamant Yeddyurappa refused to settle for anything less than the post of state president.
"We discussed many issues in the meeting and decided to conduct a workshop for the party office bearers in the city on October 17. Yeddyurappa will also take part in the workshop," said Eswarappa.
