Jiah Khan, then 25, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her Juhu residence late June 3, 2013 in a case of apparent suicide, and police later recovered a suicide note purportedly penned by her.
According to Jiah's mother Rabia Khan, Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab was in relation with the actress. She requested a probe into the death of her daughter alleging that it was not suicide. She had moved the high court, submitting reports by independent experts to support her contention that Jiah was murdered.
On June 10, 2013, the police arrested Sooraj and booked him for abetment to suicide on the basis of the letter. On July 1, 2013, the Bombay High Court granted Pancholi bail. The HC had observed that the letter, purportedly written by the deceased and found at her home, could not be considered a suicide note since it wasn't addressed to anyone in particular and was undated.
The case was transferred to the CBI in July last year following the orders of the Bombay High Court which had directed the agency to probe whether the death was a suicide or homicide on the plea of Jiah's mother Rabia.
A familiar face in Bollywood, the actress had made her debut in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Nishabd' where she played a teenager in love with her best friend's father, played by Amitabh Bachchan. She was also a part of movies like 'Ghajini', 'Housefull' and 'Aap ka Saaya'
