After a lull of two years, this academic year finally brought good news for engineering students, as campus placements hit an all-time-high.
With more companies hiring graduate, it only means better placement and more offers for students.
Placement departments at various top colleges have ensured that with the market situation improving, bigger and better companies hire their students.
H S Jagadeesh, placement head at BMS College of Engineering, said, "There has been a phenomenal increase in placements for all branches this year.
We've managed to secure employment for over 90 per cent of our students. Companies, which were earlier reluctant to hire freshers, are doing so in bulk this year. Better packages and more new companies have been driving the demand."
Placements hit rock bottom during the recession of 2009, followed by even fewer jobs in 2010. "Even though the economy had improved, the situation was bad last year.
We were offered jobs in other sectors. But when we refused, we were told to work in the BPO wing for a year till some internal openings arose," said Abhishek, who graduated last year.
This year however, market research experts claim that there are more jobs in the market, thanks to over 20 new start-ups hiring in the city.
"The placement atmosphere has improved. The tier-1 companies are hiring more freshers, but the surprise element has been start ups, which are hiring too.

For companies, freshers come at a lower cost and students in turn, get better opportunities and good projects," explained Kris Lakshmikanth, founder CEO and MD, Headhunters.
With better offers pouring in, does it mean better pay packages for students? He replied, "The markets look favourable for freshers this year since the usual salary packages start from Rs 3 lakh per annum and companies are now offering up to Rs 4.5 lakh."
Placement head at M S Ramaiah College of Engineering Dr M Vijayadev added, "We usually have about 120 companies hiring on campus.
This year till date, we've had 100 companies approaching us for placements and about 93 per cent of our students have been hired already."
