It's a lesser-known station near the city that has been functional for a year now; only a few are aware that it can save them a lot of time during peak hours

Karmelram railway station can prove to be a boon for people living across the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border and working in the HSR layout-Sarjapur area. However, only a few are aware of the fact that this station exists and can save them a lot of travel time during peak hours.

Several inter-city and inter-state trains stop at the station, which is just 8 km from HSR Layout and has a BMTC bus stop a five-minute walk away.

"For the past year, trains have been stopping, but only a few people are using the station since many are not aware of it. If the numbers of passengers increase, there are chances for other trains being designated to halt here," said, V Channbassappa, stationmaster of Karmelram railway station.

Unaware
"Though I regularly travel to Thothukudi, I was unaware of this station till a friend informed me recently. For the past few weeks now, I have been using this station. It saves money and time as I don't have to go all the way to the city railway station, which is an ordeal by road during peak hours," said Kartik Kumar, an IT professional and a regular commuter.

Suvankar Biswas PRO, Bangalore Southwestern Railways informed that the station was constructed five years ago on request of the Christian community residing in the area. But only in 2010, were some trains from Kerala and Tamil Nadu allowed to halt here.

Many such stations
Biswas, however, disagreed that people are not aware of the existence of the station. "People in and around the area are aware of such a station. Those in the rest of the city need not be concerned. There are many such small stations in Bangalore," added Biswas.
