Kashewadi tense after 'firing'

Tension prevailed in Kashewadi slum yesterday afternoon after two bike-borne assailants allegedly shot at a Hadapsar resident, Rangnath Bansi Jadhav (32), a history-sheeter. Hundreds of slum dwellers gathered in front of the police chowky following the incident. Jadhav was twice externed from Khadak police station limits and has over 25 cases 25 cases lodged against him in Swargate and Khadak police station jurisdictions.


DCP (Zone I), Dnayneshwar Phadtare said, “At around 4 pm, two persons on a motorcycle chased Jadhav and his friend Sanjay Patole, who were also on a motorcycle. Jadhav was riding pillion and the duo allegedly fired at him near Kashewadi with a country made pistol. Jadhav survived the attack as his bike fell down on the road.” Phadtare added that after firing one round, the assailants fled, but Patole and Jadhav chased them until they vanished in the bustling area of Bhavani Peth. The police have identified the assailants and will book them shortly.
