Varanasi: All those foreign women visiting the renowned Kashi Vishwanath temple in short western attires will henceforth have to drape saris if they want to enter the sanctum sanctorum.

The diktat was issued recently by the temple trust after its officials spotted women roaming in the temple premises in inappropriate attire.
These saris will be provided to the tourists at the ticket-booking counters for free.
To ensure that the decision does not snowball into a controversy, temple authorities claimed that saris worn by scantily dressed foreign tourists would maintain the purity of the temple premises and made it clear that it was not a mandatory dress code for all the visitors.
