It took almost five difficult years but the family can finally breathe in peace. On Monday, a Noida court awarded life imprisonment to three people for kidnapping Anant Gupta, son of Adobe CEO Naresh Chand Gupta, in 2006.

Special Judge NK Srivastava found the accused, Chhatrapal alias Dev alias Chuttan, Pawan and Jitendra guilty under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement a kidnapped or abducted person) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of them.
After the sentence was pronounced, Anant's parents expressed their gratitude to the police and judiciary. "After so many years, we finally got justice. We are really happy with the quantum of the punishment. The whole machinery worked in tandem to administer justice and we are satisfied with the court's order. We have been involved in the proceedings and besides Anant, my wife, her brother and I deposed in the court," said Naresh.
"Recently, we read about the kidnapping of a businessman from Noida and the way he was saved. We hope this judgement acts as a deterrent for other criminals. While Anant understands and recalls the incident in detail, he is not scared anymore," said Nidhi, Anant's mother. The couple have also started assisting the families who have gone through similar experience.
Earlier on Saturday, a Sessions court in Gautam Budh Nagar convicted the three accused for abducting the then three-year-old Anant from his home. Four others-Ram Dayal, Santosh, Veer Singh and Sunil Kumar-were let off on bail due to lack of evidence. On November 14, 2006, Anant was kidnapped while waiting for his school bus outside his Noida, Sector-15 residence. Three days later, the kidnappers were caught in Mathura and Rs 50 lakh, paid as ransom, were recovered by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
