The quantum of the sentence will be pronounced on October 8. Before the pronouncement, Judge BV Gudli asked Shivakumar whether he confess to the crime.

The latter started saying that he is innocent and he was forced to confess. He pleaded leniency in the punishment stating that he has a child and aged parents to take care of.
Earlier, Special Public Prosecutor VK Patil said that it was a pre-planned cold-blooded murder, and the evidence showed that there was no leniency shown by Kumar.
Patil added that that the act was done without any provocation.
Patil who argued for an hour before the magistrate in a jam-packed court, said that the act has created a terror like situation among thousands of women employees working in theu00a0 city.
He said the crime was considered as a rare case, and so, capital punishment should be rewarded.
