A day ahead of the release of 'Padmaavat', Kolkata Police has made elaborate arrangements to check any untoward incident related to screening of the film in the city. A senior official of the force today said all stations under Kolkata Police jurisdiction have been cautioned and directed to keep a vigil on cinema halls and multiplexes.

Police stations have been told to deploy personnel in plain clothes inside theatres to keep a watch on crowd behaviour and keep up patrolling around cinema halls and multiplexes where the film is scheduled to be released tomorrow, he said. Officers in-charge and the additional officers in-charge
have been instructed to be on "alert" to prevent any untoward incident in connection with the film's release.
The official said a high-level meeting was held between deputy commissioners of all divisions of Kolkata Police. "We do not want to take any chance and that is why security has been tightened. We will not let anybody disrupt the peaceful situation in the city," the officer said. The Supreme Court had earlier paved the way for the all-India release of "Padmaavat" on January 25. Many fringe groups are opposing the period drama, alleging that historical facts were distorted in the movie.
Starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the film was slated for release on December 1 last year but was postponed as the makers had not got a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), or the censor board, till then.
