Kongu Global Forum (KGF), an association of representatives from the business community of seven districts of Western part of Tamil Nadu, today sought direct flights from Coimbatore to Dubai and Delhi.
In a memorandum submitted to Air India Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola, the forum said a direct flight to Dubai would offer immense business potential to Air India, since it can cater to the sizeable ethnic population of this region working there. The Forum also sought elevating of the airport here to the 'Hub-and-Spoke' model as it would facilitate seamless travel for all passengers travelling to Europe and beyond, its chairman A Sakthivel said.
Also, with Delhi being the hub of Air India it is but relevant that Coimbatore is connected to it as an important spoke, he added. He also said a direct flight to Delhi would help people from the seven business districts in the Kongu region connect to Europe easily. Seeking a direct flight to Chennai and Bengaluru so as to help reach before 8.30 a.m, which will help business travellers, Shaktivel also requested for one-stop flights to Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Vishakhapatnam and Vijayawada. Kharola promised to consider their demands, Shaktivel said.
